Endocrine care
Diabetes care for adults, children
& pregnancy
Diabetes is a condition in which blood sugar remains higher than normal, but not all diabetes is the same. While type 2 diabetes is the most common form, there are several other types that require different approaches to diagnosis and treatment. These include type 1 diabetes, diabetes in children and young adults, diabetes during pregnancy, pancreatic diabetes caused by pancreatitis or other pancreatic diseases, inherited forms such as MODY, and diabetes caused by certain medicines, including steroids. In India, diabetes can develop even at a young age or in people who are not overweight. Every patient should not automatically be considered to have type 2 diabetes.
Knowing the exact type of diabetes is important. A detailed evaluation of your symptoms, age at diagnosis, weight, family history, medical conditions and blood tests can help identify the underlying cause. Sometimes, additional tests for insulin production, diabetes-related antibodies or genetic causes may be necessary. The correct diagnosis helps determine whether you need insulin, tablets or other medicines. Some types of diabetes require lifelong insulin, particularly type 1 diabetes, while certain other forms may be managed without insulin. Identifying inherited diabetes can also help assess the risk to children and other family members.
With the right diagnosis, personalised treatment and regular follow-up, people with diabetes can lead healthy, active lives. Early identification and good long-term control can reduce the risk of complications affecting the eyes, kidneys, nerves, feet and heart. Dr. Rajesh Moganti (MD, DM Endocrinology) provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment for different types of diabetes in adults, children and pregnant women at our Rajahmundry and Tanuku centres.
